Bandai Namco action RPG Code Vein has just released its first DLC, Hellfire Knight, which gives players the opportunity to bring the Revenants back together to face an all new boss, the titular Hellfire Knight. Code Vein was released back in September of 2019, so the timing of this DLC drop is the perfect opportunity to get players fired up about this dystopian game once again. Code Vein has been dubbed “the anime Dark Souls” due to the style of game play and challenging boss battles.

The game allows players to create their own custom characters of vampiric, mask-wearing fighters called Revenants. In Code Vein lore, Revenants were once deceased corpses that were brought back to life using a parasite that would give them regenerative qualities. The Revenants became almost vampiric, having unique abilities to fight the monsters taking over Vein (the city), while still having the need to drink human blood to keep themselves from entering a frenzy, becoming a different kind of creature known as the Lost. Over time these Revenants have adapted to life in this post-apocalyptic world, becoming a part of society. They exchange human blood for blood banks and need to wear filtration masks in order to keep themselves from inhaling the air and becoming Lost.

After just a handful of months since release, Code Vein has three new DLCs announced that will be dropping throughout early 2020. The first has officially been released today, with an accompanying YouTube trailer to celebrate. Hellfire Knight brings the Revenants back together for another battle. The DLC comes with a whole new side story featuring the Hellfire Knight boss, three new weapons, a new blood code, and new costumes for the player’s AI partners. Hellfire Knight is also co-op so players can play with other Revenants.

Code Vein’s Hellfire Knight is the first DLC in the planned trio. The next two are expected to release in February and March consecutively. The DLC can be purchased as part of a Season Pass for Code Vein at $24.99 or each can be purchased individually for $9.99.

Code Vein has struck a chord with Souls fans thanks to a similar reliance upon gothic themes and difficult boss battles. Upon release, it became one of the hottest games streamed on Twitch with many streamers creating their own run-through of the anime-style game. With a new content drop and more upcoming releases soon, the three Code Vein DLC launches will definitely be able to bring players back into the world as Revenants.
