Introduction
Imagine a world without colors. A world without its splendor and vibrancy! Impossible. Colors are part of our everyday lives and often leave lasting impressions on us. They come with different foods, fruits, objects, and clothes. In fact, they are everywhere, and as put succinctly by James Henry Leigh Hunt, “Colors are the smiles of nature”. There are possibly a million colors in existence and while some colors like red, blue, yellow, white, black e.t.c are quite common, we have the not-so-popular ones. Our focus today, however, is to briefly examine colors that begin with the letter ‘s’.
There are quite a several colors that begin with the letter ‘s’ possibly between 20 and 30. Some of these colors include safety orange, sangria, sapphire, scarlet, school bus yellow, sea green, sky blue, seashell, salmon, and so on. We shall now examine a few of these colors.
Safety Orange:
Essentially a shade of the color orange as the name implies. The safety orange color is usually utilized by designers of safety signs to alert people to situations that might be harmful to them or detrimental to their safety. For example, the color is generally used to notify people of the fact that there may be dangerous parts of a machine that can be injurious to them.
Sangria:
The Sangria color, also known as dark red or purplish-red is named after the Sangria wine, a blend of Spanish red wine. Due to its uniqueness, the color stands out anywhere and has especially been used by fashion designers in the production of trendy outfits.
Sapphire:
Named after the precious stone, Sapphire is essentially a saturated shade of the color blue i.e a heavier shade of blue. Though sapphires exist in other color variations, they are predominantly blue. These gems are popularly used to manufacture materials like jewelry and clothes.
Scarlet:
Also known as brilliant red, the scarlet is a very bright shade of red and is associated with so many things. Scarlet could mean courage, passion, or even heat. It is also often associated with sin in the religious context. For instance, according to the Holy Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 1 and verse 18b, Sin is like a scarlet. i.e. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. In the Roman Catholic denomination, however, the scarlet color is popularly worn by the Cardinals.
School Bus Yellow:
As the name implies, this color was specifically developed for school buses in North America. Essentially, this shade of orange attracts attention and it is quickly noticed by onlookers. The color is known officially as “National School Bus Chrome” and it was selected because black lettering on that shade of yellow was easiest to see in the semi-darkness of the early hours of the morning
Conclusion:
Flowing from the above, it can be deciphered that though colors beginning with the letter ‘s’ are not so common, they have been quite helpful and distinctive in making our everyday lives better and meaningful. This goes to show that no color is more important than the other and they can all prove quite useful.
