Actor and comedian Kevin Hart suffered major injuries following a car crash on Sunday. Hart, who will next be seen in Jumanji: The Next Level, has become one of Hollywood’s busiest performers in recent years. He’s hosted many ceremonies, cultivated a familiar brand of humor, and has even tried out the world of modeling.

Though his career began slowly, starting with comedy tours in 2009, Hart has gradually gained a following after appearances and cameos in a number of memorable films and television shows. From supporting roles in Scary Movie 3, Along Came Polly, and The 40 Year-Old Virgin, the actor has headlined several comedy specials and has morphed into a reliably lighthearted fixture at the box office.

According to E! Online, the incident occurred early Sunday morning on Malibu’s Mulholland Highway. Jared Black, a friend of Hart’s, was behind the wheel of the comedian’s car when he lost control and veered into a ditch. The car, a vintage Plymouth Barracuda, which Hart bought for himself as a gift, then crashed through a wooden fence and the roof was crushed on impact. Black, and a third passenger, who was not injured, were originally trapped inside the vehicle. It was further reported that Hart left the scene and headed to his nearby home before being treated at the hospital. Hart, and Black, both sustained major back injuries. Authorities later determined that Black was not under the influence at the time of the incident.

Hart’s wife, Eniko Parrish, gave updates on her husband’s condition as she went to visit him at the hospital on Monday. “He’s going to be just fine,” she assured. The star of Ride Along underwent a successful back surgery. Despite the fact of his injuries being severe, and though it’s expected that he will remain under medical supervision for at least a few days, it seems hopeful that the comedian will make a full recovery.

Following news of the car crash, many of Hart’s friends expressed their love and support for him. Bryan Cranston, who shared the screen with Hart in The Upside, sent his co-star well wishes. Others like Terry Crews, Mindy Kaling, Justin Bieber, Jamie Foxx, and Ludacris shared similar sentiments. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a frequent collaborator of Hart’s, and a personal friend, reacted emotionally to the accident. In an Instagram post, Johnson told Hart that they have a lot more laughing to do together. Given how much worse the crash could have been, it’s good to know that they will.
