New Black Widow movie fan art pays homage to Natasha’s two identities in a very cool way. Making her first comic book appearance in 1964, Black Widow ranks as one of Marvel’s most enduring creations. In the films, as portrayed by Scarlett Johansson, she’s appeared in eight of the Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptations. Often featured as an integral character to the plot, Black Widow has teamed with Captain America and she’s fought alongside The Avengers. In Avengers: Endgame, which served as a culmination for several characters, Black Widow sacrificed herself for the greater good. With her own solo film set to be released in May however, fans will still have a chance to learn about a persona that has remained clouded in mystery.

As part of Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans were offered a glimpse into Black Widow’s past. Though the glimpse isn’t entirely accurate given it’s an illusion, strongly influenced by the fact that Black Widow is essentially walking through her own nightmare, we see the origins of the calm and collected superspy. It’s in the Red Room, which is a secret Soviet training program that takes young women and turns them into deadly assassins. The curriculum of this secret institution involves, among many other things, torturous ballet lessons.

If the Black Widow movie trailers are anything to go by, the Red Room is very likely to receive significantly more spotlight when the film hits theaters in just a matter of months. New fan art by BossLogic pays homage to this fact, visually connecting the two sides of Natasha’s life in a very creative way. Check out the art below.

While there is an ongoing debate about whether it is simply too late for a Black Widow movie, given how much the MCU has grown, and given that audiences have already seen Johansson’s character evolve (and die), the fan art itself can serve as a compelling argument for placing Natasha at the center of her own narrative. Even with the fact that she pops up fairly regularly in MCU titles, she’s frequently playing off Hawkeye or The Hulk. In her own movie, presumably, longtime fans will get a chance to delve into a part of Natasha’s life that has been kept hidden from view.

The fan art places Natasha as a ballerina in the front, while affording smaller space to the familiar look of Natasha as a spy. It’s likely the Black Widow movie, which is directed by Cate Shortland, will take a similar approach by revealing new depths to a character that has been part of the MCU for a decade.
