Our exclusive report that the Force Touch feature in the new iPhones will be a more advanced form of the technology than used in the Apple Watch has been supported by what may be the patent behind it. Yesterday, my colleague Parker Ortolani wrote about the time Apple discontinued not once but twice an iPod touch ahead of WWDC for a simple reason: it wouldn’t support the latest iOS. This time, not only the seventh-generation iPod touch is still being sold, but the Apple Watch Series 3 is living its best life as “In Stock” and available all over the US. One of the greatest features available on iOS 15 is the ability to make the iPhone findable even after being turned off or factory reset as long as Activation Lock is enabled. Turns out, this really works in real life, as I still have access to the iPhone’s position even though I factory reset it. Update: I’d been under the impression that the W1 chip in AirPods required matching tech in the iPhone 7, but it turns out this isn’t the case, and the chip can perform its pairing and power-saving magic with older devices too. It was back in February that we first heard about a new 16-inch MacBook Pro in the works, and a new report today supports this, adding some more details. As we noted this morning, the timing does seem a little odd … IHS Markit says the new 16-inch laptop has a target manufacturing date of September 2019 with a production rate of about 250,000 units per month. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, has now taken the stand and is testifying in the company’s ongoing legal battle with Epic. Apple has said that Federighi’s testimony will focus heavily on security, highlighting the lengths to which Apple goes to protect its users.
